19th August: “Where politicians work…”
This Friday should be a pretty interesting day because we planned to see buildings of the German government and the hidden underground of Berlin, but the day started as usual with an early breakfast. Then, we took the subway to the huge Berlin main station.
From there it was just a short walk to the parliament called Bundestag. On the way we passed the German chancellery, which is three times larger in size than the White House.
At the Bundestag we had a guided tour. We learned something about history of Germany and about the work of the representatives. After the tour we visited the famous dome and had a wonderful view over the governmental district.
Before visiting some hidden bunkers we had lunch at the square “Potsdamer Platz”. The team of “Berliner Unterwelten” guided us through the former shelters having been built to protect the people of Berlin from a potential nuclear escalation during the “Cold War”- time. It was pretty interesting to see that some of today’s subway station can still be used as bunkers. (Sorry it was not allowed to take pictures for you :( )
As it should be for young people the highlight was the free time till the end of the day in the city of Berlin.
